Magpie Workshops will be offered in conjunction New England Felting Supply for the 2008 year with the exception of Felting Lab which will be offered in the fall at Chris' private studio.
New England Felting Supply NEFS is a new retail source for fibers that caters specifically to feltmakers. The company was founded on an in-depth knowledge of the characteristics of various wools and other fibers and on hands-on experience in a broad range of feltmaking techniques. A 3,000 square foot supply house is located in the old Majestic Theater in Easthampton, Massachusetts, now part of Nojo Studios. The structure was purchased and renovated by the talented furniture designer Jo Roessler of NoJo Design (see the building and Joe's work at www.nojodesign.com). NEFS offers on-line sales of Norwegian felting batts, an exclusive new line of custom-dyed short-fiber merino batts for designers, medium weight prefelts, and color card sets. A much larger selection is offered at the retail store where customers come for the 140 colors of merino roving, extensive hand-dyed nuno silks collection and hundreds of other fibers and products. What about Magpie Workshops? A large, open area inside the 3,000 sq. ft. NEFS store will be utilized by Magpie Designs staff and other instructors. Through use of the NEFS space, the Magpie school will continue to offer opportunities to study with national and international felting instructors in many techniques including nuno garment-making, high quality felted rugs and sculpture.
